Miniature Christmas Express

I always check if the box is sealed.
Corners and more.

So here are some photos
to prevent another request
for retrospective camerawork.

.

.

Oh...a dodgy brush!
Ready for a christmas hairdo.

And an eye on the electricity items.
Looks nicer than in the last box.
It had no band around it.

The switch is outside the switchbox...
but the wires are attached inside,
so the box should work with batteries.
Checked those first this time.

The wires have been turned
one way or another.
No system to be seen.

A set up for failure?
Why not just wind them loosely,
with a clear beginning,
instead of a double wire put through the rest?

Look at that!!

This mess is what we are dealing with...

Oh....
the other inside battery connection
is somehere else...

Still in the bag...

Put it in.

This is what you get.
Otherwise you need a wire scissor
or when you can work minituously:
a scalpel.

Get that last part off.

Take the lights wire.

Take the two wires and get them wide apart.

This time I was lucky:
a golden and a silver wire.

Put the two wires from this apart.
This time it's a grey and white one,
but they also might be red and black.

Put the batteries in the system.
(Never do this on a 1:1, so real life scale!)

Try the golden wire on the white,
and the silver wire on the grey.
(Keeping grey and white apart from each other)

If the lights won't work,
switch the stand of the switch!

If the light won't work,
try it the other way around.

Write down which wires work together.

(If you have equal coloured wires,
use a permanent marker to mark one.)

In the former box nothing worked.
In this box both light wires worked.

So I've put the whole system in a safe place
until I want to use them.

When there are shrink pipes,
put them over the white and grey wire,
one on each.

Otherwise get some papertape ready.
Two pieces.

Take the grey wire and the wires that fit on it,
turn them well together.
There needs to be a tight fit.

Take the white wire,
do the same.

Check!!

When it works:
use the shrinkpipe or papertape.

Check!!

If the lights won't work,
there is not a good connection
between the wires.
So do it again.

Some people can solder them together.

I like to start with the building itself.
That way I don t need to find a place
for the delicate individual items.

Two walls and the floor were not an issue.
The platform was,
as it was difficult to fit in
in a horizontal position.

With the back wall
horizontal,
it was easy.

.

First paint,
then assemble.

The design requires 2 pieces of J12.
But there is just 1 piece.
!!!!!

.

.

Painting the bendable piece
won't result in a nice coat.

Some parts require a bit of glue,
otherwise they fall apart.
It's not like the boats/ships.
Different material, different way of lasering.

.

One of the bags against the light.
Not very clean.... Ugh!
That's how I found it in the box.

Tip:
Fold the ribbon,
pin it the way you want it to look,
lift the different parts
one by one,
and put with a match
some glue between.
Press it together, let it dry.
Remove the pin.

!!!!

Another mistake.
The bottom one should be 6.5 cm.
It's not!!

There is also a size difference
for the wreath in fron ot the train.
It should be smaller than described.

Use bended scissors.
Make a lot of difference.

.

.

.

You can of course use something else
than ribbons.
especially on the very tiny boxes.

!!!!

Not all the wood in the kit
is of quality.

Oh...and this one first
lost a few hairs,
then half the brush came loose.

.

I tried to prevent further issues
by flattening the base.
Will it be enough?

.

.

Made the snowman my way.
Watch the height of the building!

.

Easier to work with this
special equipment.

The lamp is connected with the wire,
so a flat base on a flat floor
with a wire in between
results in an unbalanced lamp.
Like on the image on the box.
So I found a ring
(part of the lid of my insulin needle)
and made a hole for the wire in it.

Because the plastic didn't stick to the glue,
I put a tiny piece of painted wood between
stairs and lamp.

.

.

.

The socks were meant for the tree,
but we don't hang socks in trees.
So I've put them on a tiny piece of wood
on the wall.

.

Tinsel makes again a nice decoration.

.

.

.

.

.

Attaching the last wall was impossible,
even when the wire was gone.
As I couldn't reach inside,
I couldn't force the platform extensions
in the wall.
So all I could do was sow them off.

After I had put the wall up
i regretted doing so.
I should have put something
against the platform
and put a fence on it.
So al the nice things
could be seen all the time.

Maybe I can find me another box
and do it my way.

When getting the fence out of the form
it broke!!!!
Must have been a weak spot.

I am not sure if
I want to keep it there,
cover it in snow,
or take it off.

Put the star in glitter!

.

As you can see,
a lot of the box
can't be seen at all.

Review:

A nice box,
but with a few flaws,
and not developed to it's full potential.
It should be an open railwaystation,
with a pillar at the right,
to support the roof,
a cover for the right side of the platform
and a fence.

  1. Thank you for the clear instruction for the lights. Better than what I got with the roombox I am making. Merry Christmas. Lisa.
